The Path So Far
A living community for those who walk, create, facilitate and tend the labyrinths of Aotearoa.
The Labyrinth Guild NZ has begun!
What started as a vision for a national gathering place for labyrinth people is now becoming something real ~ a small and growing circle of people coming together to share our experiences, knowledge, questions, discoveries and love of the labyrinth.
We are at the beginning of something.
And, like the labyrinth itself, we don't need to know the entire path before we take the next step.
Monthly Online Gatherings ~ Last Wednesday of the month

Emergence
Our first gatherings have now taken place, and the shape of the Guild is beginning to emerge through the people who are already part of it.
At present, we gather online in a small circle for conversation, reflection, learning and connection.
These gatherings are intentionally intimate. They are a place to ask questions, share experiences, explore ideas and discover what we might create together.
The Growth & Structure of the Guild
The Circle
A regular online gathering where labyrinth people can come together, share what is alive for them and explore a theme or question connected to labyrinth practice.
The Guild Fire
A space for members to bring something to share, a piece of research, a labyrinth story, a book, an experience, a creative practice, a question or something they have discovered along the path.
The Gatherings
As our community grows, we hope to gather in person for labyrinth walks, workshops, pilgrimages and opportunities to meet the people and visit the labyrinths of Aotearoa.
The Living Library
Over time, we will develop a collection of resources, stories, research, teachings and practical knowledge for those wanting to explore the many facets of labyrinth work.
The Living Map
One of our longer-term intentions is to create a living map and directory of labyrinths across Aotearoa, the Guild will have it's own website and print publication, connecting people with labyrinths, their creators and custodians, and the stories held within each place.
Why A Guild?
Across Aotearoa New Zealand, over 30 labyrinths are being walked, created, tended and held in many different places and in many different ways.
Some are ancient patterns. Some are newly created. Some are permanent. Others appear temporarily on beaches, in gardens, community spaces or sacred places.
Some people come to the labyrinth through spirituality or prayer. Others through meditation, wellbeing, creativity, pilgrimage, education or simple curiosity. Iwi lands hold the history for some of these labyrinths.
The Guild exists to bring these people and these stories into relationship.
We are creating a shared space to discover what the labyrinth is becoming in Aotearoa, and what it might yet become.
The Documentary Project
There is something remarkable about discovering how many labyrinths exist across our country, and even more remarkable are the stories behind them.
Who created them?
Why here?
What was happening when they were born?
Who walks them now?
What has this particular labyrinth witnessed?
The Guild hopes to become a place where these stories can be gathered and shared. Not simply a directory of locations, but a living record of the people, places and pathways that make up the labyrinth landscape of Aotearoa.
Alongside the development of the Guild, a new journey is underway. I am working on a documentary exploring the labyrinths of Aotearoa New Zealand, travelling the country to discover the people, places and stories behind them.
It will be a journey of place, people and pilgrimage. The documentary will explore the diversity of labyrinths across Aotearoa, the people who create and care for them, and the many ways in which these ancient pathways continue to speak to people today.
The journey is only beginning. And the Guild will be part of that journey, members will assist in whatever ways inspire them.
As the documentary unfolds, I hope to meet labyrinth makers, facilitators, custodians, walkers, artists, historians, practitioners and simply curious people who have a story to tell.
Perhaps you are one of them.
Who is the Guild For?
You don't need to be an expert. The Guild welcomes people who:
~ walk labyrinths for personal practice
~ facilitate or guide labyrinth walks
~ have created or helped create a labyrinth
~ steward or care for a labyrinth
~ work creatively with labyrinths
~ bring labyrinths into spiritual, therapeutic, educational or community settings
~ are researching or learning about labyrinths
~ are simply curious and feel called to explore
There is room here for many different perspectives and approaches. The common thread is simply a love of the labyrinth and a desire to explore its possibilities together. Come and walk with us.
The Labyrinth Guild NZ is still young. There is no membership fee at this time. While some future projects (website, publication) will require costs, it is my hope that we can come together to support this however we are each able to.
If you feel called to be part of that beginning, we'd love to hear from you. Use the form at the bottom of this page to share your labyrinth interest.
